Happy "3 Redbulls and 2 coffees kinda Monday" Day,

"MY EMPLOYEE IS PAINFULLY SLOW and I'm so sure AI can help them so much, but they're anti-AI. How do I convince them to use AI?"

I gotchu.

I get it. You have an employee that, for whatever reason, avoids AI. Either it's their love for the original art of creativity and writing, they have environmental concerns, or they just watched Terminator 1-50😣; for whatever the reason, I have to disclose: My policy is to never try to convince people to like AI because I truly respect their decisions, and honestly, we NEED people to start the resistance.

Buttttt, that said, I don't mind the open-minded debate on AI. Although all concerns are truly valid, I tend to win my case on why AI is not as horrific as they think.

Actionable Task: How I, and now you, can answer common AI concerns

If you have an open-minded employee who doesn't like AI but is willing to hear the other side, here's just a snippet of how I answer their questions and concerns:

"AI is using up all our water"

Not completely true. It was debunked that AI uses a concerning amount of water:
1. AI uses dirty/recycled water
2. The average data center uses less water than a golf course
3. The biggest data center in Texas uses as much water as just 2 In-N-Out restaurants (FYI, there's over 430 In-N-Out restaurants in The US)

"AI is destroying our environment"

Although 100% true, it's around #10-ish on the list of things destroying Earth, with cars and air pollution at #1. Things like plastic waste and freshwater scarcity are bigger concerns. All this to say: not driving does way, way more than not using AI.

But as we all drive our cars around, accepting that we have to pick our battles and can't fight everything, at some point you have to decide whether efficiency and leveraging AI to do more human-impacting mission work is bigger than your belief in AI's environmental impact. That decision is not mine to make.

"AI is killing creativity"

I respectfully challenge that notion; It's actually making creators like myself even more creative because we HAVE to challenge our creativity even more. AI out there means I have to write better and think more outside the box.

Also, creative people who didn't have time or money to be creative before, now have a tool to express their creativity that they couldn't before. AI can bring their ideas to life; whether art, writing, or tech. We may not think it's creative, but now an artist can write a book they never thought possible and self-publish thanks to AI.

"AI will be the Great Equalizer" (my hot take)

Me, an Afro Latino, first generation American kid from the Bronx who didn't graduate college and has been overlooked for years due to the lack of my writing skills, now has access to writing tech and knowledge that was never ever ever accessible to people like me.

A Spanish speaker can now translate any document themselves. A Chinese immigrant can learn English faster talking to AI. My 4-year-old kid can learn about rocket science. (Literally, I had AI teach him how Artemis worked)

Access to information and education has been the biggest divider in America, and now that Pandora's Box is open, the information is available to ANYONE who wants to find it; and that's going to change the world for the better.

I read about the change being made now.
A Spanish speaker created an interpreting app for himself, used it to impress his potential employer, and got a job he would never have been able to get, all by leveraging AI.

Remember: Convincing the closed-minded isn't my mission. Equipping the open-minded is. If they're willing to consider that AI might serve humanity instead of replacing it, the example above is just a taste. I have so many more examples.

Ultimately....
Anything that can change the world for the better can change the world for the worst. It's on US to decide how we leverage this powerful tool. Cars, the internet, social media, AI, it's all a force for good and bad.(Choose Wisely)🙏🏾
