Happy "grateful to be working" Monday!
EVERY NONPROFIT LEADER I MEET says the same thing: "We need to think more like a for-profit." (Your words not mine)
Then in the SAME conversation, they say things like:
"It's not about the money for us."
"I'd never do that for money."
(Your words not mine)
Many EDs struggle with earned revenue because they subconsciously associate revenue generation with mission drift.
I gotta call this out lovingly because I see this contradiction destroying nonprofit potential daily. You can't say you want to think like a for-profit while at the same time believing money is yucky. The term nonprofit is flawed, because you literally need profit to keep the lights on. For-profits don't apologize for charging. They don't feel guilty about revenue.
Here's a secret I've personally picked up in talking to many, many nonprofit leaders: The most successful nonprofits aren't the ones begging for donations. They're the ones who built something to SELL and use the profits to fuel their mission.
Chambers of Commerce sell memberships.
Outdoor nonprofits sell guided excursions.
Performing arts nonprofits sell tickets and experiences.
Educational nonprofits sell workshops and certifications
The mission stays sacred. The revenue model gets smart.
I get it. You don't want to BECOME a for-profit money hungry, 'profit-over-people' greedy pig. I promise you; with your big caring heart, you NEVER will. It's not in your DNA.
But there are mindsets, strategies, and frameworks we absolutely can steal from those "pigs".
Keeping all that in mind, here comes my fangirl moment. I'm a huge business nerd, and I obsess over this business influencer named Alex Hormozi. Not just because he's a chiseled Greek god (Don't look him up, unless you want to question your relationship 😬🤤), but because he's the smartest entrepreneur I've ever heard. His frameworks have built billion-dollar companies.
What if Alex Hormozi could be YOUR business coach for free, without compromising your mission? (Muscles not included)

Actionable Task:
Get Alex Hormozi as Your Personal Coach
Step 1: Open Your favorite AI tool
Step 2: Copy-paste this prompt:
"I want you to embody Alex Hormozi, business coach and author of '$100M Offer' and '$100M Leads.' You are coaching me, an Executive Director of a nonprofit organization.
My organization: [PASTE YOUR WEBSITE, AND BUDGET]
Apply Alex Hormozi's business principles to my nonprofit, including:
The Value Equation (Dream Outcome, Perceived Likelihood, Time Delay, Effort & Sacrifice)
Grand Slam Offers framework
Lead generation strategies
The concept of selling 'value' not 'cost'
But here's the catch. My 'product' is donor relationships, grants, and earned revenue streams that fuel my mission. I'm not selling out my mission. I'm building sustainable revenue to FUND it.
Before you start coaching, ask me 5 questions to understand my current revenue streams, biggest financial challenges, and untapped opportunities. Then give me a Hormozi-style action plan for the next 90 days to dramatically increase our nonprofit's revenue without compromising our mission or values.
Be direct. Be honest. Push me like Alex would push a $10M founder."
Step 3: Answer honestly, then watch Hormozi (AI version) build you a revenue strategy that would make your board's jaw drop.

Remember:
For-profit companies mastered sustainability while nonprofits mastered survival. Steal their playbook. Your mission deserves the same financial engine that
powers empires. You can't pour from an empty cup.
